In Hollywood, California, it’s common for homes to have a pedigreed past. Such is the case of a newly-listed Beverly Hills estate, where actress Katharine Hepburn lived at the dawn of her career and actor Boris Karloff at the height of his. After making the move from Broadway to Hollywood in 1932, Hepburn, one of the industry’s leading ladies, rented the Hacienda-style home for just about five years. Boris Karloff—the horror-film star known for his monster roles in Frankenstein and The Walking Dead—purchased the home after rising to fame in 1938. He was reported to have sold the property in 1945. Karloff’s passion for gardening was reflected in the home’s lush gardens and outdoor courtyards, which exist to this day and give the property a wonderful sense of privacy. Built in 1927, the five-bedroom, six-bathroom estate is marked by its traditional terracotta roof, flower-covered terraces, and a beautiful swimming pool. Inside, white-washed brick walls, exposed beams, and mosaic tiled staircases play into the home’s Spanish-style architecture. Other highlights include six indoor and two outdoor wood-burning fireplaces, antique chandeliers, and a cozy flow between indoor and outdoor living. From its large kitchen and living room to its more intimate conversation areas, the 4,984-square-foot property is perfect for entertaining both large and small groups. According to Top Ten Real Estate Deals, the home is being listed by Brendan Fitzpatrick of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
