Rupert Murdoch has finally sold his lavish Flatiron penthouse. The media mogul, owner of Fox News and News Corp, parted with his triplex at One Madison for approximately $23.8 million, according to Crain’s New York Business.

While the sale price is substantial, it marks a significant loss compared to what Murdoch originally paid. In 2014, he purchased the three-story penthouse for $43 million and an additional unit below it for $14 million. In 2022, he listed the 6,580-square-foot triplex for $62 million and the secondary unit—a three-bedroom space on the 57th floor often used as a guest suite—for $16 million. The guest suite sold in October 2022 for $12.5 million. Since then, Murdoch repeatedly adjusted the triplex’s listing, taking it on and off the market while reducing the price. Most recently, in June 2023, the asking price dropped from $38.5 million to $28.5 million.
The penthouse, spanning the top three floors of the 60-story One Madison tower, underwent significant renovations during Murdoch’s decade-long ownership. It features five bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows offering 360-degree views of Manhattan, a wrap-around terrace, and a private elevator. The building also includes luxury amenities like a doorman, concierge, fitness center, and pool.

Murdoch isn’t leaving New York City entirely. While he’s bidding farewell to Midtown, the Australian-born billionaire retains a robust global real estate portfolio, including a 6,500-square-foot residence on Central Park South. Purchased in 2023 for $35.2 million, the seven-bedroom home on the 27th floor of Hampshire House offers Murdoch a prime retreat. Incidentally, the building is the same one he called home in the 1990s.
