A duplex soaring more than 100 stories over Midtown Manhattan reigned as the priciest home to go into contract last week in New York City, according to Monday’s report from Olshan Realty. The penthouse at supertall skyscraper Central Park Tower, a new development on Billionaire’s Row at the southern edge of the park, was most recently asking $149.5 million, though it’s expected to close for around $115 million, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the pending sale last week. The nine-figure deal was one of 19 contracts signed on homes in Manhattan asking $4 million or more in the week ending Sunday, according to the report from Olshan. They comprised 12 condos, five co-ops and two townhouses.

Those newly signed luxury contracts amounted to $330.5 million, a nearly 60% increase over the prior week, owing to the Central Park Tower deal.

Extell, the developer of the skyscraper, originally marketed the penthouse for $175 million. The duplex spans more than 12,500 square feet with seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and two powder rooms. There are also two small terraces adding another 204 square feet. The home has a great room with 27-foot ceilings and sweeping views over the city.

The second-biggest deal last week was for a West Village townhouse asking $30 million. It was a quick sale for the big-ticket home, which hit the market at the beginning of December. The 6,000-square-foot, single-family house has five-bedrooms, five full bathrooms, two partial bathrooms and an elevator, according to Olshan. [Source: Mansion global]
