Departing ‘Daily Show’ Host Trevor Noah Also Leaving Manhattan Penthouse

As he contemplated leaving his high-profile (and high paying) post as host of “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah sold his ultra-modern Los Angeles mansion earlier this year for almost $26.4 million, a notable $1.1 million less than he’d paid about one and half years earlier. [Source: thedirt.com]

Now, having set his departure date for early December, the 38-year-old South African comedian, writer, actor, and political commentator, is set make up the west coast loss on the profitable sale of his three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath Manhattan penthouse that recently popped up for sale at close to $13 million, almost $3 million above the not quite $10.2 million he paid in early 2017.

Capping Stella Tower, a 1928 Art Deco tower designed by renowned architect Ralph Walker as the New York Telephone Building and converted to luxury condos in 2014, the 3,600-square-foot penthouse was completely overhauled during Noah’s ownership. Listing agent Nick Gavin of Compass told The Wall Street Journal that the multi-year renovation involved gutting the entire place and reconfiguring it. The most significant change to the floor plan was moving the principal bedroom to the lower level and putting in its place the living room, which now provides easy access to the terrace.

Bespoke design highlights include an architectural floating staircase that links the lower-level foyer to the upper-level living and entertaining spaces, chevron-pattern French Oak floorboards, and custom cast-metal archways. Fifteen-foot ceilings allow for massive windows that frame open city views, and rich textures, hand-plastered walls and striking light fixtures up the decadence, while punches of color keep it from feeling too serious.

The living room’s muscular linear marble fireplace is balanced with a plum-colored tufted sofa and in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, a plucky pair of vermillion leather armchairs, while butter-yellow chairs animate the adjoining dining area. Crafted of delicately patterned white oak and strongly veined polished marble, the kitchen is open to the dining area over a chunky island snack bar. One entire wall of the dining area is backed by soignée verre églomisé glass panels and given over to a bar that includes a four-bottle wine tap, perfect for rosé-all-day devotees, while a spacious pantry sports marble floors and shelves.

Each of the two guest bedrooms on the lower floor has a private bathroom — one of the bedrooms is converted to a home theater — and the principal bedroom offers a suede-covered accent wall, half a dozen closets, including a windowed dressing room, and a huge bathroom fitted with steam shower and limestone floor.

Back upstairs, the living room and den, the latter where Noah has a foosball table, spill out to the terrace. Lots of potted plants and hurricane protected candles soften the thrum of the surrounding city and skyline.  At one end of the terrace, an al fresco dining spot is complemented by a built-in wet bar, and at the other, a teak pergola shields a heated plunge pool.
