‘Dirty Dancing’ Producer Lists Midcentury Modern Inspired Westchester Estate

A sprawling midcentury modern inspired residence, built in 1999, has just come onto the market in Pound Ridge, New York, just north of Stamford, Connecticut. Asking almost $6 million, the house is a generous 8,147 square feet. There are six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and three powder rooms in the house, which belongs to Mitchell Cannold, best known for producing the 1980s movie classic “Dirty Dancing.” The property is repped by Nancy Strong and Stacey Oestreich at Douglas Elliman. The home was designed by renowned architects Gilles Depardon and Kathy Ogawa, with landscaping by Glenn Ticehurst. Cannold asked for landscaping inspired by Maya Lin’s Wavefield at Storm King Art Center, which resulted in rolling, lush grounds tha soften the horizontal modern lines of the building.

The stone and wood house is set upon six and a half acres of beautiful forested landscape overlooking a large private pond. The house encapsulates the aesthetic harmony achieved when design, construction and landscape work together for a singular living environment. Situated on a hillside, the home features large expanses of glass, which introduce natural light as well as vistas of the surrounding woods. Utilizing the finest of materials, the house’s design is sensitive to form, light and texture.

The open foyer overlooks a two-story living room with walls of windows revealing the lovely soaring trees framing the pond and forest. The kitchen, designed by Scavolini, includes a versatile island and an indoor/outdoor breakfast room, perfect for family gatherings and entertaining. Sliding glass doors in the dining room open to the courtyard.

The first floor includes the primary bedroom suite with private deck, a library, two bedrooms with a shared bath, a home office, and two powder rooms. The lower level boasts one more en-suite bedroom, two more bedrooms with a large shared bath, a 4K professional home theater with surround sound, a laundry room, a powder room for use of pool swimmers, and a three-car heated garage. All bedrooms have walk-out private patios, a common feature in midcentury houses. Outside, residents and guests alike will enjoy the 50’ pool, hot tub and the peaceful pond.

And for those who believe that a building should pay its own way, please note that this residence has been the backdrop for multiple advertising shoots, including Diet Coke, Samsung, Zara and Bruno Magli. Ka-ching! [Source: thedirt.com]
