For the first time in decades, the mansion best known as the set of Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums is on the market. The 2001 film—starring Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, Anjelica Huston, and more—is beloved not only for its captivating storyline, but for the sprawling 19th-century backdrop. Located in New York City’s Hamilton Heights, the home was built in 1899 and designed by Adolph Hoak. The 6,000 square-foot Flemish Revival mansion’s storied pedigree actually predates its appearance on the big screen, however. According to the listing, the home originally belonged to U.S. attorney Charles H. Tuttle—the Republican nominee for Governor of New York in the election against Franklin D. Roosevelt. [Source: T&C]
