Bob Dylan has sold his 16-bedroom mansion in the rugged and wild Scottish Highlands for £4.257 million (US$5.35 million). The Nobel Prize-winning singer-songwriter put the stately and secluded manor, nestled within the vast Cairngorms National Park and close to the village of Nethy Bridge, on the market in July, asking for offers over £3 million.  [Source: Mansion global]

Dylan had owned the property, known as Aultmore House, since 2006, when he snapped it up—reportedly alongside his brother—for £2.26 million. He used a limited liability company linked to his late business manager for the purchase, property records show.

Until recently, the siblings would use it for a few weeks a year, but are selling now that they no longer use it, according to The Times, which first reported when the home hit the market. The new owner of the estate is Angus Dundee Distillers, according to records filed last week.

The distillers make a range of single malt, blended and deluxe Scotch whiskies and have two distilleries, one nearby, also within the Cairngorms National Park, and the other a little further afield, close to the east coast of Scotland. The whisky maker didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

A long driveway winds its way through the surrounding forest and up to the three-story property, which was built in the early 1900s on a site that was chosen because of its “outstanding southerly views across Abernethy Forest to the Cairngorm mountains,” the listing with Knight Frank said.

A representative for the brokerage could not immediately be reached for comment.

Inside the more than 18,000-square-foot manor, plenty of original features can be found, including marble fireplaces and detailed plasterwork on ceilings and archways, plus timber floors, according to the listing.

There are numerous reception rooms.

A stately entrance hall leads into the home, where there’s a billiards room, a drawing room, a garden room, primary and secondary kitchens, and a guest or staff wing. There are also offices, a basement, a workshop, an old coal cellar and, of course, a music room.

Most of the principal rooms have dramatic views toward the Cairngorms.

Outside, the almost 24-acre estate has a Victorian greenhouse, an orchard, a walled garden, a fountain and even a croquet lawn.

There’s also a selection of standalone residences on the grounds, including three four-bedroom cottages, according to the listing.

Outside, gardens are joined by a large greenhouse.

Dylan’s love for the picturesque Scottish region was immortalized in his 1997 song “Highlands,” in which he croons “my heart’s in The Highlands, gentle and fair/Honeysuckle blooming in the wildwood air/Bluebells blazing where the Aberdeen waters flow.”

A representative for Dylan—who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016, plus 10 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award during his 60-year career—could not be reached for comment. [Source: Mansion global]
