One of the most anticipated movies of this awards season is Ridley Scott’s buzzy House of Gucci, a high-fashion true crime story that’s already dividing critics. The film depicts the opulent world of Gucci scion Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver), who was assassinated in 1995 by a hitman at the behest of his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). And next year, for a limited time, fans of the film can experience the actual house of Gucci thanks to Airbnb.

In the film, Gucci’s primary residence is a sprawling 16th century palazzo in Lake Como, Italy. And there’s no suspension of disbelief required for anyone who knows the area—the location used by director Ridley Scott and his production team is Villa Balbiano, which really is one of Lake Como’s most iconic estates. And it’s currently available to rent on Airbnb—albeit for one night only, on March 30, 2022.

As the AirBNB description explains, Villa Balbiano sits on the western shore of Lake Como, and is one of the largest private residences in the area. It encompasses a huge garden, an outdoor pool, and a private boathouse and pier. The six-bedroom palazzo dates back to the end of the 16th century, when it was built by Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio. A century later, the description continues, “it was enlarged and embellished by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini who used the Villa to host a gallant and frivolous society where festivals, banquets and dances followed one another relentlessly.”

So if you’re craving a gallant, frivolous and unspeakably opulent getaway next March, you’ll want to mark your calendar for Monday, December 6th. Booking opens on Airbnb that day at 12 p.m. ET. House of Gucci, meanwhile, hits theaters tomorrow, November 24th. [Source: Townandcountrymag.com]
